+ Density

Know the DENSITY of your hair

to choose the right products

WHAT IS CAPILLARY DENSITY?

To know the hair density we analyse the hair density as a whole and not the hair strand alone. Hair density is the amount of hair together, the volume of the hair and the volume of the hair.

In other words, if we talk about having fine hair, we are referring to the fibre, and when we say that we have little hair, it is the density.

HOW CAN I KNOW MY HAIR DENSITY?

In order to choose the right products, the style or type of hairstyle that will suit you best or the cut to have more volume, it is necessary to know the density of hair, together with the porosity, the type of hair and the thickness.

Hair density can be determined by 3 methods:

1. WITH A HAIR STUDY:

This consists of counting all the hairs we have in one cm2. To get an idea of how many hairs or strands we have on our head, it depends a lot on the colour of the hair.

  • Reddish hair has 80,000 to 90,000 hairs.
  • Black and brown hair has around 100,000 to 105,000 strands.
  • Blonde manes have the most hair, about 130,000 to 140,000 hairs.
  • The average is 120 to 260 hairs per square centimetre.

2. TEST AT HOME

WITH A LOW TAIL

  • Here we measure the thickness of the ponytail:
  • If the thickness of the ponytail is 5 cm or less: low density.
  • Between 5 and 7.5 cm approx.: medium density
  • More than 7.5 cm. : high density
  • This method will be easier for wavy or curly hair.

LOOK AT YOURSELF IN FRONT OF A MIRROR

Always do this test with dry hair, if it is wet it will always look like you have less hair.

We let it fall and as it falls we look in the mirror, as normally the hair is arranged according to our shape and the parting we usually wear, we can do the same, but make the parting in another place and observe.

It may be that we have more hair at the crown of our head than at the sides or the other way around.

If you can see your scalp easily: low density
If you can see a little of your scalp: hair density is medium.
Your scalp is not visible at all or it is very difficult to see, you have a lot of hair: density is high
Having fine hair and medium-high density is possible, since in the same follicle there can be several hairs, being denser, in short, having more hair, but the strand being fine.

NOW THAT I KNOW MY HAIR DENSITY:

The density will tell us how much product we should use.

But we can also get an idea of the texture of the products so that they don't give us too much weight or yes, if that's what we want.

  • LOW DENSITY

It is better to use light products that do not add weight to achieve more volume. Gel or mousse textures are more suitable than creams, because if they add weight they will reduce the volume.

In terms of styling, if you want more volume, apply less product at the roots and use techniques such as 50/50 or top volume.

Avoid heavy oils or butters. If you plan to cut your hair, look for simple, straight or rounded cuts for more volume. If you want to layer your hair no more than 2 layers or you will have the last layer with 4 hairs.

  • MEDIUM DENSITY

Medium density is easy because there are thousands of ways to style your hair.

Experiment, here it's a matter of taste, you can use light products to give volume or use heavier oils and butters to give weight,

and try tousled, tousled looks.

In terms of styling, you can leave it as it is after washing it after using your products and blow-drying or braid it and other methods to get a different type of curl.

  • HIGH DENSITY

If you want to reduce the volume a bit, use heavy products rich in oils.

Creams, waxes or butters will be your allies if your hair is thick, if it's fine better to combine light cream and gel.

Having more hair can make it harder to detangle, a good conditioner or leave-in will be a good ally for this.

The layered cut is perfect for dense hair,

but if you don't want volume tell the technician, to get the best alternative in your case.
